Our Programs

Jeevakkal Integrated Complex of Special Homes for Senior Citizen and Destitued Children

Jeevakkal Integrated Home was inaugurated by the Honorable Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, Selvi. J. Jayalalitha in September 2012. The Home is an abode for Destitute Children aged between 5 and 18 years, and helpless elderly persons aged above 60 years. The strength of the Integrated Home is 50 persons, of which 25 are children and 25 are aged persons. All the children are either single parented or unable to be cared at homes, owing to familial problems. Our elderly are rarely visited from their homes and this complex is a haven for them.  The Department of Social Welfare and Nutritious Meal Programme is the supporting agency for this Home.

Jeevakkal Mentally Ill Home

Jeevakkal Mentally Ill Home has been functioning since August 2014. The home is an abode for mentally ill persons who are found wandering in the streets, and left unattended at homes. Such persons are admitted free of cost, and administered regular health check up, food, medicine, clothing and shelter. There are 52 female and inmates in the Mentally Ill Home.

Residential Special Training Centre

Jeevakkal has been conducting Residential Special Training Centre for school dropout children aged below 14 years. We provided safe residency, food, clothing and other educational materials to these beneficiaries. The main aim of this programme is to enroll the children according to the age through SSA scheme and provide one year special training, and enroll these children in formal educational Institution as their need of priority.

Jeavakkal TANSACS - TI (FSW) Project

In collaboration with the Tamil Nadu AIDS Control Society, the Jeevakkal Society is working with women sex workers in Srivilliputhur, Sivakasi, Rajapalayam, Vembakkottai and Watrap  Panchayat Unions.

Most of the women work in the Match Boxes industries and fireworks factories. They work as farm labourers. Working in these industries is physically and psychologically challenging and the income is also very low. Hence, they are forced to look for alternative jobs of supplementary income sources. Most women engage in sex work due to their family circumstances. Approximately 500 women were identified as female sex workers from these five unions in Virudhunagar district.
